Blackberry harvest

DSC_1912One of my favorite thing to take photos of in the nature is berries. I mean, they are so pretty, symmetrical, colorful and on top of that extremely tasty. When gathering berries in the wild, you somehow feel richer and richer the fuller your bucket gets. In Sweden we are happy to have the Allemansrätt (every man’s right) meaning that anyone is allowed to gather mushrooms, berries or such in the forests. Every year we gather blueberries, raspberries, lingon berries, cloud berries and now the time for black berry harvesting has come. It’s really convenient to gather berries and if you don’t make jam or so from them you can just put them in the freezer to take out any time during the year when you need a touch of summer. I usually top my oatmeal with blueberries or blackberries that were gathered during the summer every morning during the rest of the year. During the dark and cold long winter it is really nice to get that extra boost of vitamin C and antioxidants that the berries contain. And actually, blackberries are supposed to be even healthier than blueberries. I didn’t know that until my mum told me yesterday. During less than an hour I picked around 1 liter. This year is a good blackberry year.
