From bush to bonsai

Well, in the last post I mentioned that the bonsai master Francois Jeker transformed a bonsai at the exhibition site this weekend. I forgot to take the  pictures of it before the big cutting, but it was nothing more than a bush. I think this shows quite well how a plain looking plant can turn into a beautiful bonsai if the person forming it has the sense of art and the technique skills. For example, here Jeker is doing a so called Jin, which is a kind of deadwood technique where you remove the bark of one branch to make it appear older. It’s necessary to burn the branch to remove fungus and such. After creating the jin, you also have to wait for several years to let nature make its thing and create the final finish.
